Biassono

Province: Monza and Brianza · Region: Lombardy · Population: 11,697 · Postal code: 20853

Biassono is a Brianza town on the Lambro, inside the regional park of the Lambro valley. The site is very old: a late Bronze Age cemetery of the Protogolasecca culture came to light at the Brughiera dei morti, and in the ninth century Ansperto, archbishop of Milan, was born here. From the late seventeenth century the town's story follows that of the Verri, whose palace is now the town hall and civic museum, with the old ice house in the garden.

The arms come almost entire from those of the Crevenna marquises, lords here from 1676, the year the territory was split from the parish of Desio: a red two-tiered tower crosses a green bean branch, to which the comune added a chapé partition and a capital B for its name. In 1928 a decree took the land inside the wall of the royal park from Biassono, Vedano and Villa San Fiorano and gave it to Monza: the circuit already ran in there, and the Curva Grande is now officially Curva Biassono.
