Saint Vitus and Saint Modestus, patrons of Burago di Molgora
📅 Every year, on 15 June
Burago di Molgora celebrates Saints Vitus and Modestus on 15 June, in the parish church dedicated to them.
On the ninth of September 1960 the parish priest, don Angelo Bozzi, wrote to the administrative office of the diocese of Milan asking permission to sell some of the parish benefice's land, and explained why: it was needed for building industrial premises, of which the village was almost entirely devoid. These were the church's fields, and the priest was putting them on the market to bring in the factories. It took another ten years, but from the nineteen-seventies onwards Burago stopped being agricultural and never looked back. Molgora Giocattoli, which in the sixties and seventies made toy guns, was based here, and so was Bburago, the maker of model cars that carried the village's name around the world with an extra B, until it went under in 2006.
Four thousand two hundred and forty inhabitants in the province of Monza and Brianza. The name may come from the buriacus estate of a certain Burius; Molgora, like the stream, is Celtic instead, from a root meaning watercourse, and was added to the name in 1862. In 1809 the municipality had been annexed to Omate and in 1811 to Cavenago. On the coat of arms, granted in 1962, there is a pelican wounding its own breast to feed its young — a symbol of the village's charitable institutions — and there are bees, for the workshops.
