Feast of San Vittorino
📅 Every year, on 3 September
On 3 September Cozzo, a municipality of 371 inhabitants in the province of Pavia, celebrates its patron San Vittorino.
The village was the Roman Cuttiae, on one of the busiest roads towards Gaul: a milestone of the time of Antoninus Pius was found here, and the place is named on the Peutinger map. The Bordeaux itinerary even gives its rank: a mutatio, that is not a place to sleep but only to change horses, between the halts of Lomello and Rigomagus.
The castle, rebuilt by the Milanese in 1214, lodged in September 1499 the king of France Louis XII, on his way to take Milan; in the great hall a fresco shows the two processions meeting: on one side the king with two cardinals, on the other the lord of Cozzo with his wife Maria Roero and the people of the court. On the walls, in graffito, the vine of the Gallarati.
