Feast of Saint George
📅 Every year, on 23 April
On 23 April Cino, a municipality of 373 inhabitants in the province of Sondrio, celebrates its patron Saint George, after whom the parish church is named.
From the village a path climbs to a summer pasture called simply O, one letter: the shortest place name in Italy. The comune runs from a little above five hundred metres up to monte Brusada, which passes two thousand, and six torrents cross it, each with its own name: valle Chioso, valle dei Mulini, valle Vinzeno and the others.
The parish church of San Giorgio is first described in 1447, though it was certainly older; what you see was remade in the baroque age, and it stands on a spur of rock above the houses, with one of the finest views over the lower Valtellina. Cino has been a comune since the fourteenth century, like its neighbours, though it was always more a hamlet than a town.
