In July 1987 Valdisotto was the municipality hardest hit by the Valtellina flood. The landslide that broke away from Monte Coppetto entirely destroyed the village of Sant'Antonio Morignone and the quarter of Morignone. The dead were mostly at Aquilone, a hamlet that had not been evacuated and that was destroyed not by the rock but by the blast of air: 28 people, to whom must be added 7 workmen who were clearing the road blocked by a slip a few days earlier. The church of San Bartolomeo de Castelàz survived because it stood a little higher: the landslide passed all around it and left it standing, encircled.
Three thousand five hundred and thirty-three inhabitants in the province of Sondrio, in a narrow corridor followed by the Adda that links the basin of Bormio with the rest of the Valtellina. In 2007, at Aquilone, the memorial of the Val Pola landslide was built. In the chief of the municipal arms is drawn the Torècia, a piece of the old tower and stone wall that enclosed the county of Bormio, the Magnifica Terra, in the centuries when it was autonomous.
