When the Lombardo-Veneto kingdom redrew the map of the communes, it had planned to create two or three separate ones here. It was the Valtellina deputy, count Guicciardi, who proposed instead keeping them together within the ancient and natural boundaries of the vicinanza of Valdidentro, and the provincial delegation agreed with him, invoking the old division of the county of Bormio. So in 1816 a single commune was born under the name Valle di dentro, bringing together Isolaccia, Semogo, San Carlo, Premadio, Pedenosso and Fraele: not a new line drawn at a desk, but a medieval community put back on its feet.
Four thousand and forty-five inhabitants in the province of Sondrio, and it is the second largest municipality in Lombardy after Livigno, with over twenty-four thousand hectares. The thermal waters of Monte Reit come out of the rock at between thirty-five and forty degrees and feed the Bagni Vecchi and Bagni Nuovi, near Premadio. High above, between Monte delle Scale and Cima Plator, stand the two towers of Fraele, and around them the trenches dug up to the First World War are still partly visible. The towers and the church of San Gallo are also the two elements of the municipal coat of arms.
