Feast of Saints Vitus and Modestus
📅 Every year, on 15 June
On 15 June Brenta, a municipality of 1,798 inhabitants in the province of Varese, celebrates its patrons Saint Vitus and Saint Modestus.
Brenta swallowed and was then swallowed. In the Napoleonic period it took in Casalzuigno, Cittiglio and, briefly, Vararo as well; then, in 1927, it was Brenta that was annexed to Cittiglio itself, before becoming a comune again. Two faces of the same century and a half of mergers.
On the coat of arms, granted in 1962, the field is green for the fertility of the land, and above it are the bees: they stand for the factories. The old church is that of Santi Quirico e Giulitta, Romanesque; in the church of Santi Vito e Modesto, recorded at the end of the eighteenth century, there is instead a fresco by Alberto Bogani showing Luigi Guanella and Chiara Bosatta at their charitable work. And from 1914 to 1949, along the main road that crosses the village, ran the Valcuvia tram, and Brenta had its own stop.
