Saints Peter and Paul, patrons of Daverio
📅 Every year, on 29 June
Daverio celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on 29 June, in the church dedicated to them.
The parish church of Daverio is said to have been built over ground that in very ancient times held a temple dedicated to Mercury. In the area a necropolis has come to light, and other scattered finds suggest a Roman settlement of modest size but well rooted: a place of worship, scholars say, is not built where there is nobody. From Latin would come the name too, from De Verris, a Roman family settled here. As for the pile dwellings supposed to lie in the marshy areas, the source itself warns that they are more speculated about than proved.
The village revolved for centuries around two noble families, the Sessa and the Bossi, and from the latter the Valbossa in which it stands takes its name. It was the Sessa who had the church of Santa Maria Assunta built in the middle of the village, in the fifteenth century; the parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo is instead of 1890 and holds an organ built by Giovanni Mentasti of Varese in 1879. The villas Sessa and Silbernagl today house antique dealing and exhibitions. Three thousand and seventy-five inhabitants.
