Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle
📅 Every year, on 25 January
On 25 January Force celebrates the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle, the town's patron; the town also has the Museo di Arte Sacra and the Torrione Porta San Francesco.
The coppersmiths of Force spoke a language of their own: they called it baccagliamento, and it served to understand one another while trading copper without being understood by anybody else. Shoes were li fancose, the muddy ones; bread was lu réfë, the thread; the dog was lu martelliscu, the one that hammers by barking. When the coppersmiths ended, the baccagliamento ended too, and nobody speaks it now.
In 1515 Cola dell'Amatrice painted a great polyptych for the monastery of San Salvatore in Aso, later moved into the collegiate church of San Paolo and broken up in 1724. The pieces are scattered: three panels have been in the Vatican Pinacoteca since 1909, one panel with the prophets is at Rieti and another at the museum of the University of Kansas.
