Roccafluvione is a comune made at a desk. In 1866 four old ones were joined, Rocca Casaregnana, Osoli, Roccareonile and Pizzorullo, and since none of the four could give its name to the others, the name was invented: the rocche scattered about the valley, plus the river Fluvione. Nor is the seat in any of the four: it is at Marsia, down in the valley bottom.
Of the four, the largest was Pizzorullo: it had walls, a square, a church and a town hall, passed under Ascoli in 1277 and then slowly emptied, until nothing was left of it but traces on the hill. The comune also has a detached piece, Forcella, which borders a detached piece of Ascoli Piceno: two exclaves touching.
