Feast of Saints Cosmas and Damian
📅 Every year, on 26 September
On 26 September Venarotta celebrates Saints Cosmas and Damian; the village also hosts the Museum of Cooked Wine and Medicated Wines.
There are two roads for the name: a temple of Venus that people from Ascoli are said to have built up here in the sixth century, or the vena, the underground spring. Venarotta governed itself until Ascoli took it over in 1237. On the coat of arms the castle has two towers, and the left one is drawn in ruins: the village put its own wreck on its badge.
More than a single village, Venarotta is nine ancient hamlets scattered among the badlands and Monte dell'Ascensione. At Gimigliano stands the oldest church of the territory, that of Santi Quirico e Giulitta; and there, in 1948, a girl of thirteen, Anita Federici, said she had seen the Madonna twenty-six times. The sanctuary that grew from it was consecrated in 1962.
