📅 Every year, on 9 September
On 9 September Frontone, a municipality of 1,348 inhabitants in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, celebrates its patron San Teodoro.
The castle della Porta stands on the last ridge between the duchy of Urbino and the Malatesta lands, and it was Francesco di Giorgio Martini, military engineer to Federico da Montefeltro, who rebuilt its defences: the great spur-shaped bastion that still marks it out is his. In 1530 Francesco Maria I della Rovere gave castle and territory to the Modenese Gianmaria Della Porta, who left it his own name.
From 25 September 1928 Frontone no longer existed: it was joined to Serra Sant'Abbondio in the municipality of Frontone Serra, with a new coat of arms for both, and it got its autonomy back only on 6 February 1946, taking back its own arms as well. The village lies at the foot of the Catria, and from the castle the eye runs from the mountain to the sea.
