Pescopennataro

Province: Isernia · Region: Molise · Population: 300 · Postal code: 86080

The rock the village stands on carries graphite and yellow and red ochres, and the stone comes out coloured: stonecutting was a trade here, and there is a museum that tells it. Their work includes the fountain in Piazza del Popolo, cut in 1762 by Nicola Di Lallo.

On 16 November 1943 German troops set fire to Pescopennataro and the village burned; the parish church of 1654 was only put back up after the war. Some 300 people live here now, and inside the Bosco dell'Impero there is a sculpture park devoted to Pinocchio.
