Sesto Campano

Province: Isernia · Region: Molise · Population: 2,331 · Postal code: 86078

On the coat of arms there are a compass and a set square: the compass was once called sesto, because it divides the circle into six parts, and it is a play on the town's name.

The campano, on the other hand, was added in 1863: until unification Sesto belonged to Terra di Lavoro. The Spinola castle is of Lombard origin and appears as early as 1064, when count Paldone of Venafro gave it to abbot Desiderius; Filippo Spinola bought it in 1582, and today it holds a museum and an open-air theatre. At Roccapipirozzi stands the Angevin fortress, built before 1320, with a great cylindrical tower. There are 2,331 residents.
