Saint John the Baptist, patron of the town of Parco della Camarlona
📅 Every year, on 24 June
Romentino celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June.
Nothing certain is known about the origin of the name. Some would have it from Roma ad Ticinum, later turned into Rumantisin; others from the role the village had in Roman times, that of a Romana mansio, a staging post where troops on the road to Gaul rested and took supplies.
The town lies in the plain west of the Ticino, and its map of water is almost entirely man-made: centuries of canal digging and of diverting watercourses have left a close net of ditches and channels, among them the Naviglio Langosco, the Naviglio Sforzesco and the Diramatore Vigevano. It is flat country, where the winter fog sits still for a long time.
