A late-15th-century castle built by the Sforza family of Milan anchors the historical center of Galliate. The municipality is also defined by the 16th-century sanctuary of Varallino, a religious complex designed by architect Pellegrino Tibaldi that reflects the area's deep historical ties to Lombard culture.
With a population of 15,008, the town sits seven kilometers northeast of Novara and forty kilometers northwest of Milan. Beyond its architectural heritage, the eastern territory is fully integrated into the Ticino River Natural Park, providing a protected riverine environment directly on the regional border with Lombardy.
