Valgioie

Province: Turin · Region: Piedmont · Population: 948 · Postal code: 10094

Valgioie lies in the Val Sangone, on the slope that climbs to the Colle del Termine, on the Dora Riparia and Sangone watershed; Monte Ciabergia stands over the Sacra di San Michele from the south-east. Between 1928 and 1957 the comune did not exist: it was absorbed into Giaveno, and on becoming a comune again it took back its old arms.

They are canting arms: the name would be linked to the magpie, a bird common here and called gaia or gioia. The arms appear in the parish archive as early as the fourteenth century. The parish church of San Giovanni Battista has a pale curved front and a bare stone bell tower.
