Feast of San Benigno
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of October
On the third Sunday of October Lauriano, a municipality of 1,493 inhabitants in the province of Turin, celebrates its patron San Benigno.
Turin's province is the only one in Italy that runs up against a foreign border: westwards it reaches France, the departments of Savoie and Hautes-Alpes, and to the north it meets the Aosta Valley. It is the country's largest such territory and the most finely divided, 312 separate municipalities from Alpine passes down to the lower ground towards Asti. Turin, the capital city of the Piedmont region, holds more than a third of the residents.
The Museo Egizio alone justifies the trip, and the Mole Antonelliana, the spire on the skyline, holds the national cinema museum. Just outside, the royal palace of Venaria Reale opens onto gardens and galleries at a scale its entrance never suggests, while above Sant'Ambrogio di Torino the abbey of the Sacra di San Michele clings to bare rock. Pinerolo, south of the city, is the way into the valleys.
