Brovello-Carpugnino has existed since 1928, when four comuni on the hillside between the Mottarone and Lake Maggiore, Brovello, Carpugnino, Graglia Piana and Stropino, were abolished and merged; only two of them made the new name. Brovello appears in records as early as 1235, as Broello. The arms hold three charges: the Visconti serpent swallowing a child, four ears of wheat and a silver unicorn.
At Carpugnino stands the church of San Donato, Romanesque and a national monument since 1902. A band of stone and brick archlets runs under the gable, the portico added in the sixteenth century opens three arches, and the bell tower with its sundial rises beside the facade.
