What to eat here · Ceglie Messapica

Ceglie is officially a city of art and gastronomy: a Salento food capital with more historic tables per resident than almost any other Apulian town. Its symbol is the biscotto cegliese — local almonds and cherry jam — a Slow Food Presidium that families have baked for generations.

Around the biscuit, masseria farm cooking: orecchiette with garden flavours, capocollo cured pork, cheeses and estate oils. People travel here purposely to eat, and the Cegliesi consider that a perfectly reasonable pilgrimage.
