The Albanians came after Scanderbeg's death and settled at the Serra, where San Crispieri now stands. In the mother church mass was said in the Greek rite right through the seventeen hundreds, and the village churches still have the Orthodox arrangement: you go in from the side, and the front door is opened only in the Marian season.

At the end of the fourteenth century the Principality of Taranto granted Faggiano the status of Universitas, and with it exemption from taxes. Earlier still the Basilian monks had come, fleeing persecution: their crypts remain in the tuff quarries, and one of them, San Nicola's, was cut around 1200 and is full of frescoes of the saint's life.
