The casale emptied and filled again more than once. In 1320 the court gave Berengario de Mandorino leave to «re-inhabit» a place that had been left without people, and those who went to live there were the ones the neighbours of Grottaglie had refused; but malaria kept emptying it, and in 1477 the casale was still uninhabited.

The man who put it back on its feet was Giovanni de Noha, who in 1471 began the feudal palace and, to reclaim the land, spent the dowry of his wife, Luisa Muscettola; people came from Martina, from Taranto, from Massafra. The old centre has a regular plan, unusual in these parts, and the reason is plain: in 1794 the marquis Andrea Saraceno had the most decrepit houses pulled down and laid out the streets and squares that are there now.
