Sardinia's third city owes its name to position: the fourth mile from Roman Cagliari. Today the two cities touch and share the treasure in between: the Molentargius wetlands, the natural park where pink flamingos nest within sight of beach umbrellas, and Poetto beach, which Quartu extends toward the coves of Mari Pintau.
The centre keeps its Campidanese houses of raw earth brick and Sa Dom'e Farra, the great farmhouse museum. From here starts the coast road to Villasimius: one of the island's most beautiful drives over the sea.
