In 1947, residents of Selargius cast their ballots in a local referendum to successfully regain their municipal autonomy, reversing a 1928 merger with Cagliari. Today, this independent status remains intact for the town of 28,684 people.
Located just six kilometers northeast of the regional capital, the community traces its origins back to the Middle Ages within the historic Giudicato of Cagliari. It now functions as a heavily integrated extension of the metropolitan area.
