The oldest thing in Cheremule is also the newest: the necropolis of Museddu, with its domus de janas cut into the rock, is part of the Parco dei Petroglifi, which UNESCO has recognised as world heritage. Inside and outside those tombs there are engravings and bull protomes, carved bulls' heads, the motif that recurs in pre-nuragic Sardinian tombs. In the countryside around, a few pinnettas also survive, the conical stone huts of the shepherds.

In the Middle Ages Cheremule lay in the curatoria of Caputabbas, inside the giudicato of Torres; when the giudicato fell in 1259 it passed to the Doria, then to the Aragonese, and in 1636 it was taken into the marquisate of Montemaggiore, granted to the Canaveda and then to the Manca, from whom the village bought itself out in 1839. The parish church of San Gabriele Arcangelo is of the sixteenth century, in Gothic-Aragonese forms, and around the village spreads the wood of Su Tippiri.
