Esterzili

Province: South Sardinia · Region: Sardinia · Population: 721 · Postal code: 09053

Seventy-seven archaeological sites have been counted in this territory: domus de janas, giants' tombs, well temples and megaron temples, nuraghi; the most important is the megalithic building of Domu de Orgia. Of Roman date is instead the Tavola di Esterzili, a bronze plate with a Latin inscription recording a quarrel between two local peoples, the Patulcenses Campani and the Gallilenses.

At the foot of the village runs the Mandas-Arbatax railway, which since 1997 has served only the Trenino Verde; the station is called Esterzili but stands in the territory of Sadali. The comune has moved too: until 2003 it was in the province of Nuoro, and then it passed to that of Cagliari. Above rises monte Santa Vittoria, from which half of Sardinia can be seen.
