At Goni lies one of the most important places in Sardinian prehistory: the park of Pranu Muttedu, two hundred thousand square metres of burial ground with the densest concentration of menhirs on the island — about sixty — rivalled only by Biru 'e Concas at Sorgono. A road cuts it in two: on one side three tombs and the menhirs, twenty of them aligned on an east-west axis; on the other more menhirs, the domus de janas cut into the rock and megalithic circles. The care given to some tombs suggests they were not only burials: the second is thought to be a temple, perhaps for the cult of ancestors.

The place was already lived in between the fourth and the third millennium before Christ, and in the Middle Ages it lay in the curatoria of Siurgus, inside the giudicato of Cagliari. When the giudicato fell in 1258 it passed to the Arborea, and from them, by will, to Pisa in 1295, which actually took possession five years later; then came the Aragonese, and in 1348 Peter IV the Ceremonious turned it into a fief and assigned it to Guglielmo de Torres, a jurist working for the government of Cagliari. After the Sanna and the marquisate of San Tommaso it ended with the Cervellon and the Nin, and in 1839 the buy-out closed feudalism here too.
