Feast of Saint Saviour and Saint Mary of Sibiola
📅 Every year, on 9 November
On 9 November Serdiana celebrates its patrons, the Holy Saviour and Saint Mary of Sibiola, to whom two churches in the town are dedicated.
In the Parteolla, the countryside north of Cagliari, the church of Santa Maria di Sibiola dates from 1125, Romanesque, built when Benedictine and Victorine monks settled in the district. The rest of the village's history can be read in a line of accounts: when the lordship passed to the Mont Pavon in 1358, the inhabitants paid their new lords a sum exactly equal to the tax they had previously paid to the Commune of Pisa. The master changed, the figure did not.
In those same years Serdiana emptied altogether, between plague, famine and war, and for a century feudal families followed one another without taking root; the fief was bought back from the Brunengo, the last of those families, in 1839. Today the village lives on grapes and olives — the Argiolas cellars are here — and on its edge lies Su Stani Saliu, a salt pond studied for the birds that stop there.
