Since 9 June 2025 there is an asteroid called Comitini: two astronomers proposed it and the Turin observatory agreed. On earth, the town was born on 23 June 1627, when Philip IV gave baron Gaspare Bellacera licence to settle the fief.
In the nineteenth century sulphur was dug here, and the mines gave work to thousands of men. In one of them, owned by his family, Luigi Pirandello spent part of his youth: out of it came Ciàula Discovers the Moon and other pages about miners. On 3 July 1859, on Monte La Pietra, a group of patriots raised one of the first tricolour flags in the Agrigento area. There are 944 residents.

Comitini celebrates Saint James on 25 July, in the cathedral of San Giacomo Apostolo which gives its name to the town's mother church; the town also preserves the church of the Immaculate, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
