Leonforte celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 August: her processional litter, together with that of Saint Simon Stock, is carried through the city founded by the Branciforti family, whose coat of arms depicts a lion with severed paws, tied to an ancient legend.
A golden half-moon of shortcrust dusted with icing sugar, hiding cocoa, chopped almonds and chickpea flour: the sweet of Agira, in the Erei mountains, a recognised traditional product with its own municipal denomination.
