Positioned at an elevation of 590 meters in the Enna hills, Valguarnera Caropepe—often called Carrapipi by its 8,182 residents—owes much of its urban footprint to sulfur. While Francesco Valguarnera established the settlement in 1628, it was the booming 19th-century mining industry that fueled its most significant expansion.
The central streets are anchored by the Chiesa Madre, dedicated to Saint Christopher, and the 18th-century Town Hall built within the precincts of the former Monte Frumentario. Beyond the immediate town limits, the nearby Rossomanno archaeological zone yields ancient artifacts spanning from the 7th century BC to the 14th century AD.
