Feast of Saint Lawrence

On 10 August Aidone celebrates Saint Lawrence. But the first true feast of the year in the village is Saint Joseph's on 19 March, with its laden tables.
Known locally as Dadungh in its traditional Gallo-Italic dialect, Aidone stands out in the province of Enna for its northern linguistic heritage. The town of 4,929 residents retains a distinct speech brought to central Sicily centuries ago.
Just outside the town lies the ancient Siculan-Greek site of Morgantina, alongside the Arab-Norman castle of Pietratagliata and the nearby UNESCO-listed Villa Romana del Casale. Dense forests cover the northwestern countryside, while the shared Parco della Ronza and the Lake Ogliastro reservoir define its surroundings.
