Lona-Lases

Province: Trento · Region: Trentino-South Tyrol · Population: 876 · Postal code: 38040

The name holds two villages together, and holding them together took work: a coat of arms drawn in 1874 was never used, and in 1882 the municipality made do with a stamp showing two clasped hands: Lona and Lases wanted to stay united. The real arms came in 1984, with the stone-pine cone of the old Pinè community, the blue waves of the lake and a red band.

That red band is porphyry, quarried here since the nineteen-sixties more than almost anywhere in Trentino, and it has given the place work and shape. The town hall is at Lases, on the lake; at Lona stands the church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, at Piazzole that of San Giobbe, and between the two villages lies the biotope.
