Mori has 9,456 inhabitants in the lower Vallagarina, where the Adige begins to leave the mountains. Everyone says the name comes from the mulberries, the morus alba on whose leaves silkworms were reared here for centuries, and the explanation is so convenient that nobody argues with it. Except that the name appears for the first time in a court record held at Trento in 845, in the form Murius, while in the Vallagarina the mulberry only arrived at the beginning of the fifteenth century: the etymology is five centuries younger than the word it is supposed to explain. The other hypotheses speak of the dark earth of the place, which has left the place name Terra Nera, or of a pre-Latin root.

In the municipal territory there is also a lake that is almost no longer there. Lake Loppio, with its island of Sant'Andrea where ancient settlements have been found, emptied itself when the Adige-Garda tunnel was driven underneath it and the drainage shafts were opened: for decades it has been reduced to a wetland, and for years people have been discussing how to bring the water back. The silk is over too: the mills along the Rio Cameras closed with the silkworm diseases, and wine grew up in their place, so much so that on the eve of the First World War eight cellars in the town were exporting to the Austro-Hungarian empire.
