The church of San Martino is the parish church of Noriglio, a hamlet of Rovereto. The earliest documents speak of a building that existed from the thirteenth century beside the cemetery; from the fourteenth century it is mentioned as a chapel tied to the parish of Lizzana, and in 1582 it became a subsidiary of the archpriest's church of San Marco in Rovereto. Four centuries after its beginnings the first church was no longer enough for the grown population, and a new one was built.
What to see
The façade has two orders: below, three pairs of pilasters with marble bases and a plain architraved portal; above, a large window in the centre. The bell tower, on a four-sided plan, leans against the right side and ends in an onion-shaped spire.
The interior has a single nave, divided into two bays onto which symmetrical side chapels open.
Visiting
Opening and Mass times should be checked with the parish of Noriglio.
Our editors' tip
Of the older, abandoned church few fragments remain: the old portal, now part of a private house, and the stone base of the cemetery cross, later moved to the new cemetery.
