The patron saint of San Giovanni Valdarno is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June in the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista.
In 1486, Pope Innocent VIII granted indulgences to the faithful who visited the sanctuary on the Sunday following the feast of the Assumption: a measure historically linked to the tradition of the Festa del Perdono, still celebrated today. On the last Sundays of Carnival, parades of masked floats are held, concluding with the Festa della Salacca. The town also holds the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Church of Santa Lucia.
