Collesalvetti

Province: Livorno · Region: Tuscany · Population: 16,707 · Postal code: 57014

Europe’s largest automobile depot, the "Il Faldo" facility, sits within the municipal borders of Collesalvetti. This logistical hub, alongside the nearby Eni refinery, anchors the modern economy of this inland town of 16,707 residents. Yet the settlement dates back to a 1272 land deed signed by a notary named Salvetto, who gave the hill its lasting name.

Unlike most municipalities in the Livorno province, Collesalvetti turns its back on the Ligurian Sea to occupy the agricultural expanse south of Pisa. The main town originally grew around a Medici farm estate that still stands today, while surrounding villages like Vicarello and Guasticce maintain deep agrarian roots.
