Fabbriche di Vergemoli

This is a brand-new comune, and a scattered one: it came into being on the first of January 2014 from the union of two comuni of the Garfagnana, Fabbriche di Vallico, which is its chief town, and Vergemoli. The coat of arms, though, arrived much later, in 2018, and invented nothing: it simply sets the two earlier emblems side by side. Today one inhabitant in ten here is foreign-born, which for a mountain comune of a few hundred people is a good deal.

The best of it is underground: at Fornovolasco the Grotta del Vento opens up. In the same hamlet there is the Battiferro park, and from Fabbriche di Vallico the Wolf's path sets out. On the road climbing to Vergemoli stands instead the hermitage of Calomini, and in the church of that hamlet a sixteenth-century marble relief is kept, with the Madonna of the Rosary between Saint Dominic and Saint Thomas.
