Until well into the nineteenth century the only way between the valle di Primiero and the Feltre country was the path that ran past the Castello dello Schener, for centuries Venice's customs post facing the Habsburg empire: it was called the via dello Schener because the goods went on people's backs, and on mules'. The comune, until 1881, was called Servo.
In the middle of the plateau lies the Campagna, thirty hectares of level ground at six hundred metres where potatoes and beans have always been grown: it was the larder of Servo, Sorriva and Zorzoi, who shared it out, and the place names are so thick that it was said there was not a stone without a name. On the eleventh of August 1944 the hamlet of Aune was burnt: more than a hundred and fifty houses, from eight in the morning to two in the afternoon.
