Feast of the Annunciation
📅 Every year, on 25 March
On 25 March Ceneselli, a municipality of 1,813 inhabitants in the province of Rovigo, celebrates its patroness Saint Mary of the Annunciation, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
Ceneselli is in the Polesine but speaks like Ferrara: having ended up in Este territory, it took the dialect from there. In the parish church there is a statue of the Virgin, probably from a Ferrarese workshop, which tradition says was found in a canal in the village: every three years there is a procession as far as the spot where it is said to have been fished out.
The Socialist Party opened its branch here in 1893, and the day-labourers' strike of the following year left such a mark that a song was made of it: long live Gino Piva, whose fine speaking made the whole province rebel. Outside the village stands villa Peretti, put up at the end of the sixteenth century by the family that settled here after the first land reclamations.
