The patron of Melara is Saint Maternus (San Materno), celebrated on 18 July; the municipality holds the Chiesa di San Materno.
For more than thirty years the municipality has hosted in August the Festa della Zucca (Pumpkin Festival), an event dedicated to the pumpkin, served in a range of typical Polesine dishes. The festival is organised by the volunteers of the Pro Loco of Melara and is very popular with the locals: besides the food, every evening includes music and dancing.
