Defined by the ancient agricultural grid of the Roman centuriation, Santa Maria di Sala is a Venetian municipality of 17,295 residents in the Miranese district. The town's historical focal point is Villa Farsetti, a large estate originally tied to the local nobility.
The property's history shifted in 1807 when Conte Demetrio de Mircovich purchased it, following the death of the last Farsetti heir in Saint Petersburg. Mircovich revitalized the complex and provided it, alongside the Cavin di Sala guest house, as the town's first municipal seat. Today, the local government owns the building, utilizing its rooms for the public library and cultural events.
