The hills of Sona were made by a glacier: as it slid down the valley it left these morainic humps and, behind them, Lake Garda. Over the same ground, in 1848 and in 1866, the battles of Custoza were fought; the first time, Radetzky tried to break the Piedmontese lines exactly between Sona and Custoza.
Long before that, in 1874, near San Giorgio in Salici, the remains of a Neolithic village came to light: axes, daggers, a carinated cup five thousand years old. From the Scaliger years the tower of Palazzolo remains; then the Venetian merchants arrived, fenced the fields and put up their villas. There are 17,030 residents.

Sona celebrates the Transfiguration of Jesus on 6 August; in the hamlet of Lugagnano, during the Carnival period, a great parade of allegorical floats is held, whose main mask is the «Tzigano», elected each year by the townspeople.
