Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Alonte celebrates its patron Saint Blaise, to whom the town's church is dedicated; the territory holds the Necropoli di Alonte and Villa Trevisan.
In 1312, in the wars of Vicenza and Padua, Alonte was laid waste and burned: from Lonigo, Maccà recalls, «the smoke of this fire could be seen». The old church stood outside the village, on the castelliere, and served as the parish church until 1878, when it was left because it was giving way; the new one had been begun ten years earlier, inside the village.
The name would be pre-Latin: from lonta, «deep hollow», or from a root al- meaning to flow, which turns up in river names across half of Europe. On the southern flank of the hill eight rectangular tombs cut into the rock can be counted. And the frazione of Corlanzone is the curtis of Lanzone, with its church of san Michele: two names that speak of the Lombards.
