Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel
📅 Every year, on 29 September
On 29 September Montegaldella celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel; in late September the hamlet of Ghizzole also holds the Pumpkin Festival.
Montegaldella has given itself a nickname: the village of the greeting, because it ran a campaign to defend saying hello as a form of good manners and friendship. And the bells of San Michele Arcangelo are still rung by hand, by a team of the villagers themselves, who even go to bellringing contests. The name of the place is said to come from a Germanic word meaning a watchtower.
At Ghizzole, since 2010, they hold the pumpkin festival, and it starts months ahead: in spring the seeds for the giant-pumpkin contest are handed out, in summer the tortelli are made by hand, and at the end of September people eat. In 2015 some eighteen thousand people passed through that hamlet. On the arms, though, there is no pumpkin but grapes, with gold and red for the white wines and the red.
