Sovizzo celebrates Our Lady of the Assumption on 15 August.
Sovizzo is a new municipality: on the twenty-second of January 2024 it merged with neighbouring Gambugliano. The coat of arms granted in 2025 tells the story of the negotiation better than any minutes. The castle is Sovizzo's, but it has taken on the Ghibelline battlements that were in Gambugliano's arms; the hill it stood on has become a plain, that is the terrace of the Gambugliano shield; and Gambugliano's sheaf of wheat has stayed, reduced to three ears.
The name comes from the Latin Subvicum, below the village: the first settlements were on the hills, and the town grew lower down. Here in 1356 was born Vincenza Pasini, who died at Vicenza in 1431; in the hamlet of Montemezzo the little church of the Ave Maria was built where her house had stood. The castles of Montemezzo and Sovizzo Colle, recalled in the old arms, had been raised against the raids of the Hungarians, before the year one thousand.
