'Han crisciut i picciddèt', the picciddèt have risen, is what they say at Castelluccio when you have finally got to the bottom of something difficult. The picciddèt is the sweet Easter bread, and making it was so complicated that the saying came from there: there is the male one, with an egg in the middle, and the cuzzola, which looks like a doll.
Until 1813 the town was a single comune with Castelluccio Superiore. On 9 September 1998 the earthquake had its epicentre right here: the central vault of the mother church came down, and the church reopened on 6 December 2012, fifteen years later. There are 2,179 residents.
