The patron of Muro Lucano is Saint Gerard Majella, celebrated on 2 September. The town is his: his birthplace is in the Pianello quarter, and the local archive also holds the papers of the canonisation process, begun at Muro Lucano itself in 1843 and continued at Conza.
Then there is the Gerardine itinerary, lit up in the evening: the route Gerard took as a child to go from Pianello to Capodigiano, along the slopes of the Ripe, through the area of the mills and over the medieval bridge on the Rescio stream.
