The patron saints of Paterno are Saint John the Evangelist, celebrated on 5 and 6 May with a procession and fair, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, co-patroness, celebrated on 16 July with a procession, preceded on 15 July by the related fair.
The town's calendar is rich in district feasts: Saint Anthony is celebrated on 13 June, the Sacred Heart on 29 June in the Acquareggente district, the Assumption on 15 August in the Pantano district, and Saint Roch on 16 August. The municipal territory also holds the Appennino Lucano-Val d'Agri-Lagonegrese National Park and the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista.
