The patron saint of Abriola is Saint Valentine, priest and martyr, celebrated on 14 February and again on 16 August. The town's religious calendar is particularly rich: on the first Sunday of June and on 15 August the Madonna Assunta in Cielo, also called of Monteforte, is celebrated in the sanctuary of the same name; on 16 and 26 July the Madonna del Carmine and Saint Anne are celebrated, in the localities of Arioso and Tintiera; on 16 August and 24 September it is the turn of Saint Roch, pilgrim and confessor.
In 1809 the town was the scene of one of the most brutal episodes of banditry remembered in history: the extermination of the entire family of Baron Federici, carried out by one of the most feared bandit gangs of the era, led by Domenico Rizzo, known as Taccone. The terrain's landscape and the presence of dense woods made the area around Abriola ideal for the bandits' raids, among them also Antonio Locaso, a native of the town.
